As ASCO's home for lifelong learning, ASCO University® is committed to delivering resources that highlight the most pertinent issues in the field of oncology. With that goal in mind, ASCO University introduces Ed Book Essentials, online resources created to complement the wide range of information contained in the ASCO Educational Book. The courses are available to download on ASCO University(university.asco.org/annualmtg).
There are currently two Ed Book Essentials offerings: a web-based flashcard deck that focuses on important concepts from key pediatric oncology articles and a slide-based course that outlines bridging technologic advances with clinical practice in the treatment of newly diagnosed patients with early breast cancer. Both learning tools contextualize important information from Educational Book articles and presentit in an easy-to-understand format.
Breast Cancer course
The Breast Cancer course synthesizes information from three Educational Book articles to address emerging topics in the field. The course addresses considerations of tumor size, biology, and genomics and their effects on the tailored treatment approach to patients with breast cancer. The faculty of the course provide additional information and insight, so even those who attended the associated Annual Meeting sessions will see and learn new information (see below for a full list of the Breast Cancer Course faculty). For participants who did not attend these Annual Meeting sessions, the slides provide complimentary resources such as links to the related ASCO Educational Book articles, Virtual Meeting presentations, and ASCO Daily News content. Users can also receive Continuing Medical Education credit forparticipating.
Pediatric Oncology flashcards
The Pediatric Oncology flashcards are aimed at practitioners who are new to pediatric oncology and looking to stay up-to-date with the latest published articles. The flashcard decks incorporate information from five relevant Educational Book articles, dividing the information into three practice areas—immuno/targeted therapy, radiotherapy, and rhabdomyosarcoma. The flashcard format provides short, memorable bursts of information that can be accessed at the user's convenience from a mobiledevice or tablet.
Indexed in the MEDLINE database
The ASCO Educational Book has recently been accepted for indexing in the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE database, making all Educational Book articles citable and discoverable via PubMed. "Being accepted by the National Library of Medicine provides an amazing opportunity to expand the scope of this resource for all oncology care providers, from fellows to attending physicians," said Don S. Dizon, MD, FACP, Editor-in-Chief ofthe ASCO Educational Book.
The Ed Book Essentials series will aid in the propagation of this important material, breaking out important information and presenting it in an enhanced form to guide learning. ASCO University encourages participant feedback on the Ed Book Essentials series. To share comments, please contact university@asco.org.
