Breakthrough: A Global Summit for Oncology Innovators aims to bring together oncology innovators at the intersection of science, technology, and medical practice in an effort to transform the future of cancer care around the world. It is a tremendous honor to be invited to co-chair and lecture at the event. As a medical oncologist and global oncology researcher, I hope that we will be able to gain new insights, ideas, and especially inspiration for our research and that of others. I also expect to meet colleagues and foster new collaborations with attendees from Asia and other regions, and to interact with thought leaders who are transforming cancer care, eventually leading to new technologies and applied solutions that will improve cancer outcomes.

At the summit, I will be leading the session "The Impact of Social Media and Telehealth on Cancer Care." Dr. Christopher Hartshorn, of the U.S. National Cancer Institute, will be discussing how remote monitoring of patients can support clinical decisions. Dr. Miriam A. Knoll, of the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, will address how social media can help advance research. Ms. Vera Atema, of The Netherlands Cancer Institute, will debate internet-based cognitive behavioral therapies. We will also discuss wearables and tablets and how these can advance the practice of medicine.

I am excited about the entire Breakthrough program. A few of the highlights include lectures, panels, and discussions on how we can leverage new technologies to further cancer care, research, and education. I am looking forward to learning about cutting-edge advances in immunotherapy, cell therapies, artificial intelligence, new pre-clinical research models, microbioma, robotics, ethics, and more.

Breakthrough is a meeting for dreamers and visionaries in cancer care and technology. My dream is that the event will help us identify opportunities for the current generation of researchers and practitioners to dramatically improve care and conquer cancer.

Submit your abstract today. The abstract submission deadline is June 18, 2019.
