ASCO Connection is pleased to announce that ASCO volunteer Don S. Dizon, MD, FACP, won the 2013 Apex Grand Award for his blog series on ASCOconnection.org. Dr. Dizon is Assistant in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Oncology Sexual Health Clinic at the MGH Cancer Center. He also blogs for Massachusetts General Hospital, where he sees patients at the Gillette Center for Gynecologic Oncology, and is a Deputy Editor at UpToDate.

“It's been a great honor of my professional career to be a columnist for ASCOconnection.org,“ says Dr. Dizon. “I feel like I've found a great place on the World Wide Web to express myself, which has enabled me to reach out to colleagues no matter where they are, share something I find either interesting or important, and then exchange thoughts with them. It's been a wonderful way to begin conversations important to me, whether it be about sexual health and intimacy, difficult moments in clinical oncology, clinical trials, or the contemporary literature about oncology.

“More importantly,” Dr. Dizon points out, “I love blogging for ASCO because it reaches beyond my peers; it's been incredibly satisfying to have a forum where the public can also engage and share their thoughts and experiences. Sometimes medicine can be an isolating experience, and I've found that through my column with ASCOconnection.org, and other venues in social media, it's far less so. Indeed, I've been lucky enough to be involved in so many different conversations and have met so many wonderful people (both inside and outside of oncology) that I see ASCOconnection.org as an important conduit and one that I could not be without.”

2013 marks the 25^th year that Apex held its annual competition for publishers, editors, writers, and designers who create print and digital products. There were over 2,400 entries with only 100 awarded in 12 categories. In addition, there were 971 APEX Awards of Excellence granted.
