The University of New Mexico Cancer Center announced that Wadih Arap, MD, PhD, is the new Deputy Director and Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology in the School of Medicine.
Archana Bhargava, MD, Assistant Professor at Dartmouth Medical School and a part of the Oncology/Hematology Department at Frisbie Memorial Hospital Center for Cancer Care in Rochester New Hampshire, joined the Board of Directors of the Cornerstone Visiting Nurse Association.
Brian J. Druker, MD, Director of the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health & Science University, along with Peter C. Nowell, MD, and Janet D. Rowley, MD, was selected to share the 2013 Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research.
Martin J. Edelman, MD, FACP, has been named Associate Director for Clinical Research at the University of New Mexico Cancer Center. He will be Professor of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Internal Medicine and hold the Victor and Ruby Hansen Surface Endowed Chair in Clinical Research. In addition, he will also serve as the Medical Director for the statewide New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance.
Julio Garcia-Aguilar, MD, PhD, is the new Chief of Colorectal Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Christine Lovly, MD, PhD, Instructor in Medicine at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, earned the 2013 Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award, which supports young physician-scientists conducting patient-oriented cancer research. Dr. Lovly is a 2011 Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Award recipient.
The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (ALCF) honored Tony Mok, MD, Professor in the Department of Clinical Oncology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, with the 2013 Addario Lectureship Award.
Barbara L. McAneny, MD, was elected as Chair-Elect of the American Medical Association (AMA) Board of Trustees. Dr. McAneny, a medical oncologist and hematologist, is CEO of the New Mexico Cancer Center and New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants, LTD.
David Penson, MD, MPH, Professor of Urologic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, won a $2 million grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute for prostate cancer research.
Edward Cancer Center in Naperville, Illinois, appointed George Salti, MD, FACS, a surgical oncologist and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago, as Co-Medical Director.
Kenneth Y. Tsai, MD, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Dermatology and Immunology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, has earned the Sixth Annual Landon Foundation-American Association for Cancer Research Innovator Award for Cancer Prevention Research.
Jamie H. Von Roenn, MD, Professor of Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named as the Senior Director of ASCO’s Education, Science and Professional Development Department.

Voting for new ASCO leaders will open on October
29 and close November 26. Fourteen candidates are running for seven positions, including President-Elect; four seats on the Board of Directors (Community Oncologist, International Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist, Undesignated Specialty); and two seats on the Nominating Committee (both Undesignated Specialty). Information on each candidate and a link to the electronic proxy ballot will be available on ASCO.org beginning October 29.
