The Cancer.Net Blog

Feb 24, 2014

Cancer.Net's newest resource for patients

Cancer.Net kicked off 2014 with the launch of a new, interactive resource—the Cancer.Net Blog. The ease of rapidly communicating by blog post gives Cancer.Net more flexibility in providing patients with the latest information, expertise, and resources. Cancer.Net can now respond to current events, including breaking news about cancer advances and other topics important to people affected by cancer, in a setting that encourages and thrives from patient interaction.

The Cancer.Net Blog provides practical tips for living with cancer, suggestions to help patients and their families cope with the disease, and research news and guideline updates from ASCO. The Cancer.Net Blog also features guest posts by ASCO experts, stories from patients and patient advocates, podcasts, interviews, and much more. Although the Blog is conversational in tone, it provides accurate content that reflects the medical expertise of ASCO and its members.

Since the start of his term as Editor-in-Chief of Cancer.Net, Robert S. Miller, MD, FACP, FASCO, of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has been a strong advocate of a patientcentric blog on Cancer.Net. "What I like about blogs is they encourage interactivity," he said in an interview with ASCO Connection. "When patients are hands-on, they learn better."

In addition to being interactive, the Cancer.Net Blog also allows for readers to customize content. Patients can subscribe to the Blog to receive notifications of the latest posts and filter posts by the topics that are most interesting to them.

Podcasts now part of the Cancer.Net Blog

The Cancer.Net Blog offers a single point of access to much of the site's featured content, including the Cancer. Net podcasts. In addition to providing audio versions of some of Cancer.Net's articles, the podcasts include interviews with ASCO members and oncology professionals, as well as research highlights from ASCO's meetings and symposia.
