On September 24, MediaPlanet published its supplement in the Los Angeles Times on the fight against cancer. ASCO President Daniel F. Hayes, MD, FACP, FASCO, contributed a foreword discussing President Barack Obama’s Cancer Moonshot Initiative, which is being led by Vice President Joe Biden.

In the foreword, “Making the Cancer Moonshot a Reality,” Dr. Hayes notes that although many cancers have been cured, “We must cure them all and ensure that cancer survivors lead healthy and productive lives. This is the only way an initiative like the Cancer Moonshot will truly succeed.” He then calls on the U.S. Congress to appropriate increased funding for the National Institutes of Health “so that cancer researchers can continue their important work and we can accelerate our progress.”
