Registration Open for March QOPI and QOPI Certification Program Workshop in Brazil

Jan 21, 2020

Update as of March 9, 2020: The workshop has been postponed. More information will be made available later this year.

Registration is open for a 1-day workshop hosted by the American Society of Clinical Oncology and Association for Clinical Oncology on two quality programs, the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) and QOPI® Certification Program, in São Paulo, Brazil, on March 14.

The in-person training workshop will provide an overview of QOPI and the QOPI Certification process and how to participate in both. The workshop will cover topics that include how to:

  • Abstract data from patient charts in the QOPI platform based on selected QOPI modules/tracks
  • Apply for QOPI Certification and what that process entails
  • Sustain quality improvement changes long-term

The workshop will feature two guest lectures from ASCO physician members. Both lecturers come from QOPI Certified practices in Brazil who will speak about the value of participating in QOPI and becoming QOPI Certified for their practice. They also will discuss how to maintain long-term quality improvement changes.

The majority of the course will be presented in English, and the guest lectures will be presented in Portuguese. PowerPoint slides will be translated into Portuguese by the host organization. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

QOPI

QOPI is designed for outpatient oncology practices to foster a culture of self-examination and improvement. It is available at no charge to oncology practices with at least one active ASCO member. Participating practices can report on more than 150 evidence-based quality measures and receive individual performance scores by practice, site, and provider, as well as benchmarked scores aggregated from all participating practices. Practices then use this performance data to identify, develop, and implement quality improvement initiatives leading to better care and better outcomes for their patients.

QOPI Certification

The QOPI Certification Program offers specialty certification to outpatient-oncology practices demonstrating commitment to quality, and approximately 300 practices are currently QOPI Certified. Each practice completes a comprehensive, voluntary assessment of its site against specified standards that are consistent with United States guidelines. Those that earn certification have scored well on key QOPI quality measures and have met chemotherapy safety standards established by ASCO and the Oncology Nursing Society.

Host a One-Day Quality Training Program Workshop

Another program that the Society offers internationally is its 1-day Quality Training Program (QTP) workshops, and the Society is always seeking host practices.

The QTP is designed to prepare oncology care teams to design, implement, and lead successful quality improvement activities in their practice settings. To date, more than 200 teams from around the world have participated in the program, including Brazil’s Clinica AMO and Grupo Oncoclínicas, both located in Salvador.

The workshop introduces tools and frameworks that are used in quality improvement and teaches attendees to effectively lead or participate in improvement activities. The goal is to give oncology providers skills and a sense of empowerment to tackle quality improvement projects that will help reduce clinical variation and improve patient outcomes.

Each workshop is customized to the host practice’s needs and requirements. The session can be led by American Society of Clinical Oncology staff and esteemed faculty or licensed to a specific practice to conduct its own training, and the Society has previously hosted QTP sessions in Brazilian Portuguese.
