Community Practices and State Societies Honored for Commitment to Research and Programs

The Conquer Cancer Foundation has recognized oncology practices around the country for their work in clinical trials and five ASCO State Affiliates for programs that enhance cancer care in their communities.

Community Oncology Research Grants

The Community Oncology Research Grant (CORG) provides funding to community-based practices for efforts to enhance clinical trials programs. Eachof the 2011 awardees receivesa one-year grant of up to $30,000 to pursue activities that will help improve theirclinical research programs.

This year’s recipients are:
  • Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois--Decatur, Illinois
  • Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Cancer Center--Newark, New Jersey
  • The Valley Hospital—Blumenthal Cancer Center--Paramus, New Jersey
Clinical Trials Participation Awards
The Clinical Trials Participation Awards (CTPAs) are designed to recognize and promote high-quality clinical research sites with the intent to increase the awareness of and participation in clinical trials among physicians. The awards are presented to community-based practices participating in clinical trials at an exceptional level. This year’s award-winning practices are:
  • Children’s Hospital of New Orleans--New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Cooper Cancer Institute--Voorhees Township, New Jersey
  • Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute--Sarasota, Florida
  • Missouri Baptist Medical Center--St. Louis, Missouri
  • Northeast Radiation Oncology Center--Dunmore, Pennsylvania
  • St. Joseph Hospital of Orange--Orange, California
State Affiliate Grant Program
The State Affiliate Grant Program provides funding to State/Regional Affiliates to undertake new initiatives that will lead to improved medical practice, collaboration, research efficiencies, and ultimately improved patient care. ASCO’s State/Regional Affiliates are a vital component to effective advocacy and a critical resource for addressing issues of concern to the cancer community. The 2011 recipients are:
  • Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO)
  • Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology (GASCO)
  • Michigan Society of Hematology and Oncology
  • New Mexico Society of Clinical Oncology
  • Tennessee Oncology Practice Society (TOPS)
