ASCO CEO Urges Members to Participate in Upcoming Survey

Sep 12, 2011

ASCO is hard at work every day to effectively advocate on our members’ behalf. As part of ASCO’s ongoing efforts to respond to a rapidly changing oncology practice environment and best represent our members’ interests, we are conducting a ground-breaking national survey to obtain evidence of what is happening to community practices. Through the Assessment of the Evolution and Status of Practices (AESOP) survey, ASCO intends to gain a better understanding of how practices are faring given the growing pressures related to the legislative, regulatory, and reimbursement challenges.

Medicare reimbursement, health care reform, administrative burdens, drug shortages, and a sorely needed fix to the Sustainable Growth Rate are all factors in our members’ ability to provide quality care for patients. To get a handle on the degree to which these systemic issues are affecting practice, ASCO is collaborating with the Center for Health Workforce Studies at State University of New York to conduct the AESOP survey. In the coming weeks and months, we will be surveying our members to gain critical insight into the evolving practice environment. For example, ASCO wants to know if your practice has merged, affiliated, consolidated, and or been forced to reduce staff, support programs, or limit the number of patients you serve.

Collecting and analyzing this information will enable ASCO to best represent our members’ interests and concerns in our ongoing advocacy efforts to drive sound, national health policy. We would ask that all members take the time to complete this critically important survey . . . please help us in order that we may better help and serve you.

Sincerely,

Allen S. Lichter, MD
Chief Executive Officer
American Society of Clinical Oncology
