In December 2011, the Conquer Cancer Foundation announced the appointment and reappointment of several members to its Board of Directors.Martin J. Murphy, Jr., PhD, DMedSc, was reappointed to the Board for a three-year term, and he was also re-elected to lead the Foundation as its Chair in 2012. The following individuals were reappointed for a three-year term:

• Richard L. Schilsky, MD (2012 Secretary)
• William C. Penley, MD (2012 Treasurer)
• Robert J. Mayer, MD

Additionally, three new individuals were appointed to the Board of Directors, effective January 1:

• Ira M. Elegant, Esq., is a partner at Buchbinder & Elegant, P.A., a law firm focusing on civil litigation. Prior to launching his own firm, Mr. Elegant served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Miami Beach.
• Michael Gordon, JD, is the co-founder, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Investment Officer of Angelo, Gordon and Co., an investment advisory firm specializing in alternative investments. He began his career at L.F. Rothschild in 1970 and became a Managing Director in 1985. He is a Director of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.
• Thomas G. Roberts, Jr., MD, MSocSc, is a managing member and portfolio manager at Farallon Capital Management, LLC. Prior to his career in finance, Dr. Roberts was an attending oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, an instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a visiting scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is board certified in medical oncology.
