JCO readers will soon find a new article type in the publication—Oncology Grand Rounds—that will place the findings of an original report into a clinical, practical, real-world context.Oncology Grand Rounds stems from a vision that Stephen A. Cannistra, MD, proposed when he assumed the position of JCO Editor-in-Chief last year. The article type recognizes input from JCO reader surveys, in which respondents expressed a desire for more case-based articles. Oncology Grand Rounds will be written by leading experts in the field, who will present a common, patient-based scenario and suggest data-driven management approaches that have been successful in their own practice.

“What makes Oncology Grand Rounds unique is that the patient scenario and subsequent discussion will be related to a recent Original Report published in JCO,” said Dr. Cannistra. “In comparison to an editorial, Oncology Grand Rounds articles will be written with a more hands-on, clinical approach in mind. The articles are expected to be data-driven and recognize all relevant literature (JCO or otherwise), including ASCO Clinical Practice Guidelines and Provisional Clinical Opinions (PCOs) where appropriate.”

Look for Oncology Grand Rounds in JCO starting in late spring 2012.
