Self-Evaluation App Offers Topic-Specific Information for On-The-Go Learning

As oncology professionals’ schedules become more demanding, mobile technology is often used to efficiently work on the go. Continued education can be conveniently incorporated into clinicians’ routines with apps such as ASCO eLearning’s newly rebranded Self-Evaluation App, formerly the ASCO MOC App.

The redesigned app gives learners the flexibility to work toward Maintenance of Certification (MOC) and other continuing medical education (CME) requirements at their convenience. Six 20-question courses are offered per year, with a new course launching every other month. Courses feature topic-specific self-assessment questions on various oncology specialties including:

  • Breast cancer
  • Gastrointestinal cancers
  • Lung cancers
  • Supportive care

Using a pulsed education approach, the Self-Evaluation App sends participants push notifications at a customized frequency to notify them that questions are available for self-assessment. Each multiple-choice question consists of patient case information, educational links, and answer rationales. If a learner answers a question incorrectly, it will be cycled back into rotation until it is answered correctly. The purpose of this design is to identify knowledge gaps and provide educational resources to improve in those areas.

Once a participant correctly answers all the course questions, they will be eligible to claim 2.5 CME credits and 2.5 MOC points, which can be submitted directly to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) through the app.

The app is appropriate for clinicians at any stage of their career. App courses can be purchased individually or all six courses can be purchased in a bundle at a discounted rate. Access to the app is also included in the ASCO eLearning Essentials package and through Education Essentials for Oncology Fellows.

The Self-Evaluation App is available to download for iOS and Android devices from the Apple App Store and Google Play. For more information, email ascou@asco.org.

ASCO educational programs are supported in part by ASCO’s Conquer Cancer Foundation.

This spring, ASCO University will become ASCO eLearning. The program offers a growing range of educational materials and courses for oncology professionals at all levels in their career. Learn more and look for new resources from ASCO eLearning later this spring.
