James Patrick Allison, PhD, Chair and Professor of Immunology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, has been named the 2015 winner of the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award from the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation.

 

Carlos L. Arteaga, MD, the Donna S. Hall Professor of Breast Cancer and Director of the Center for Cancer Targeted Therapies and the Breast Cancer Program at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, received the American-Italian Cancer Foundation’s 2015 Prize for Scientific Excellence in Medicine.

The FirstHealth Outpatient Cancer Center welcomed Michael S. Batalo, MD, as a Medical Oncologist.

 

 

V. Craig Jordan, OBE, DSc, PhD, Professor of Breast Medical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, was appointed as the Dallas/Ft. Worth Living Legend Chair for Cancer Research.

 

ASCO’s newest journal, the Journal of Global Oncology, named M. Tezer Kutluk, MD, PhD, FAAP, of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine & Cancer Institute, Ankara, Turkey, as an Associate Editor.

 

ASCO’s Journal of Clinical Oncology named Ingo K. Mellinghoff, MD, of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, as a Consultant Editor in translational research.

 

James M. Metz, MD, was named Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Edith P. Mitchell, MD, was named President of the National Medical Association. Dr. Mitchell is a Professor of Medical Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University.

 

Vanderbilt University Medical Center named Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, as the Director of the Division of Hematology and Oncology.

 

Iuliana Shapira, MD, joined SUNY Downstate Medical Center as Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology.

 

 

Robert D. Siegel, MD, Director of the Oncology Program at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, has been named to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). He will continue to serve as a member of the Medical Oncology Subspecialty Board within the ABIM as well.

 

The National Scientific and Medical Advisory Board for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network named Diane M. Simeone, MD, Director of the Pancreatic Cancer Center at the University of Michigan, as their upcoming Chair.

 

Lois B. Travis, MD, ScD, was named the Lawrence H. Einhorn Professor of Cancer Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine and Director of the Cancer Survivorship Research Program at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center.

 

 

Jeffrey S. Weber, MD, PhD, joined the senior faculty of NYU Langone Medical Center and its Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center. Dr. Weber will serve as Deputy Director of the Perlmutter Cancer Center and Co-Director of its melanoma programs and will oversee its work in experimental therapeutics.

 

Sandra L. Wong, MD, MS, the William W. Coon Professor of Surgical Oncology and Associate Chair of Clinical Affairs at the University of Michigan Health System, has been named Chair of Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and Senior Vice President of the Surgical Service Line at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
