Apply Today for Conquer Cancer Foundation Grants for Early-Career Investigators

The application period for Young Investigator Awards (YIAs) and Career Development Awards (CDAs) from the Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO is now open. The deadline for completed applications is September 24 at 11:59 PM EDT. Applications must be submitted online.

Young Investigator Award
YIAs provide funding to promising investigators to encourage and promote quality research in clinical oncology. The research grant funds physicians during the transition from a fellowship program to a faculty appointment.

  • One-year research grant totaling $50,000 to pay for personnel and/or research expenses, and travel to the Conquer Cancer Foundation Grants and Awards Ceremony at the 2016 ASCO Annual Meeting
  • The applicant must be a physician (MD, DO, or international equivalent) within the last two years of final subspecialty training at an academic medical institution at the time of grant submission
  • Applicants should be planning an investigative career in clinical oncology
  • Applicants must have a mentor in the proposed research field from the sponsoring institution
  • Applicants must be an ASCO member or have submitted a membership application to ASCO
  • Review eligibility criteria and application instructions in the Request for Proposals

Career Development Award
CDAs provide funding to clinical investigators who have received their initial faculty appointment to establish an independent clinical cancer research program. Applications are welcome from all oncology subspecialties. The supported research must have a patient-oriented focus, including a clinical research study and/or translational research involving human subjects. Proposals with a predominant focus on in vitro or animal studies (even if clinically relevant) are not allowed.

  • Three-year research grant totaling $200,000 to pay for personnel and/ or research expenses, and travel to the Conquer Cancer Foundation Grants and Awards Ceremony at the 2016 ASCO Annual Meeting
  • The applicant must be a physician (MD, DO, or international equivalent) within the first to third year of a fulltime, primary faculty appointment in a clinical department at an academic medical institution at the time of grant submission
  • Applicants must have a mentor in the proposed research field from the sponsoring institution
  • Grant applications from candidates with existing career development awards (K23, K08, etc.) will not be considered
  • Applicants must be an ASCO member or have submitted a membership application to ASCO
  • Review eligibility criteria and application instructions in the Request for Proposals

Application Components
Applications for YIAs or CDAs must include as mandatory components:

  • Applicant’s contact information
  • Project information (includes abstract, IRB, and animal use assurances)
  • Specific aims
  • Personal statement
  • Applicant’s biosketch
  • Research strategy
  • Biostatistical plan
  • Cited references
  • Patient-focused research description (CDA only)
  • Project timeline
  • Budget and justification
  • Mentor’s biosketch
  • Mentor’s letter of support
  • Institutional letter of support from Department Chair or Dean
  • Institutional approval face sheet signed by the institutional approver

The following optional components may be included:

  • Clinical protocol (strongly encouraged)
  • Prior publications (maximum of two publications)
  • Supporting documentation (such as letter documenting the feasibility of the project)
  • Letter of biostatistical support (strongly encouraged)
  • Sponsor’s biosketch (required if mentor is not an ASCO member)
  • Sponsor’s letter of support (required if mentor is not an ASCO member)

Interested members are encouraged to submit applications early. Late applications will not be accepted, and technical help for the submission website will not be available after 5:00 PM EDT on September 24.
