Formerly called the ASCO Statesman Award, the Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO) distinction recognizes ASCO members for their extraordinary volunteer service, dedication, and commitment to ASCO. Their efforts benefit ASCO, the specialty of oncology, and, most importantly, the patients they serve.
Society volunteers regularly go beyond their daily practices and research to contribute their time, energy, and skills to ASCO committees, publications, and meetings. Those who are recognized with the FASCO status represent some of the most dedicated volunteers within the organization. “These are people who have given of themselves tirelessly over a long period of time. They represent the very best of our organization,” said ASCO CEO Allen S. Lichter, MD, FASCO.
Jonathan S. Berek, MD, MMS, Editor-in-Chief of ASCO Connection and a 2013 FASCO, said, “Working for ASCO is very meaningful because we, as volunteers, are able to foster improvements in all aspects of cancer discovery and care—and to contribute to the clinical, scientific, and social issues that are critical to advance the causes of improved discovery, prevention, treatment, and delivery of essential cancer care.”
The new class of FASCO include: | Jonathan S. Berek, MD, MMS, FASCO, Stanford Women's Cancer Center Dr. Berek is Editor-in-Chief of ASCO Connection. Dr. Berek is the Laurie Kraus Lacob Professor and Director of the Stanford Women’s Cancer Center at the Stanford Cancer Institute, where he specializes in gynecologic oncology, and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Berek currently serves on ASCO’s Scientific Program Committee and Integrated Media and Technology Committee. He has been Editor-in-Chief of ASCO Connection (previously ASCO News & Forum) since 2004. | |
 | Dean E. Brenner, MD, FASCO, University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center Dr. Brenner is a medical oncologist and pharmacologist and is the Kutsche Memorial Professor of Internal Medicine and Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Since joining ASCO in 1980, he has been on numerous committees including the Cancer Prevention Committee, where he has served as a charter member in 2002-2006 and was the Chair in 2010-2011. He has also served on the Public Issues Committee, Cancer Education Committee, Scientific Program Committee, Cancer Research Committee and was an editor on the Journal of Clinical Oncology Editorial Board. | |

Cohen, MD, FASCO, Cancer Center at Greater Baltimore Medical Center Dr. Cohen is Medical Director of the Sandra & Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). He is also the GBMC Director of the Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network and holds an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Cohen is active with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) where he chairs the Community Scientific Committee and is the Community Co-Chair of the ECOG Melanoma Committee. Since joining ASCO in 1987, Dr. Cohen has volunteered on numerous committees including the Cancer Education Committee, Cancer Prevention & Control Committee, Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy Protectants Guideline Panel, Cancer Research Committee, and Special Awards Selection Committee. He is currently a member of the ASCO Board of Directors. | |

Dragon, MD, FACP, FASCO, NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center Dr. Dragon is a medical oncologist at NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center with an expertise in breast cancer, ovarian cancer and multiple myeloma/lymphoma. Dr. Dragon is a Senior Clinician Educator at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and is the medical director for the Highland Park Kellogg Cancer Center. He has received numerous awards and honors during his distinguished career, including the Myra Rubenstein Weiss Health Resource Center Award. Since joining ASCO in 1981, Dr. Dragon has served on the Clinical Practice Committee, Cancer Communications Committee, Membership Committee, State Affiliate Working Group and the State Affiliate Council. | |
 | Lee M. Ellis, MD, FASCO, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Dr. Ellis is a Professor of Surgery and Cancer Biology and the William C. Liedtke, Jr., Chair in Cancer Research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His clinical practice is in surgical oncology, focused on patients with colorectal cancer and liver metastases. He has served on numerous National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and American Association for Cancer Research study sections; and is a consultant to the National Cancer Institute in several roles. Since joining ASCO in 1994, he has served on numerous committees including the Cancer Education Committee, Scientific Program Committee, Cancer Research Committee (Chair, 2012-2013), GI Cancers Symposium Program Committee, GI Cancers Symposium Program Committee, Workforce Implementation Group, Conquer Cancer Foundation Grants Selection Committee, and Journal of Clinical Oncology Editorial Board.  | Daniel F. Hayes, MD, FASCO, University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center Dr. Hayes is a Professor of Internal Medicine, the Stuart B. Padnos Professor in Breast Cancer, and the Clinical Director of the Breast Oncology Program at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is an internationally recognized expert in translational breast cancer research and in 2007, he was the inaugural recipient of the ASCO Gianni Bonadonna Breast Cancer Award for translational research and mentoring. Since joining ASCO in 1986, Dr. Hayes has volunteered on numerous committees. He served as the Chair of the Scientific Program Committee for the 2010 ASCO Annual Meeting, Chair of the 2010 Best of ASCO Planning Committee, Editor on the Journal of Clinical Oncology Editorial Board, and several guideline panels. He is currently a member of the ASCO Board of Directors. | |
 | Michael P. Kosty, MD, FACP, FASCO, Scripps Clinic Dr. Kosty is Medical Director of the Scripps Cancer Center at Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital. He joined Scripps Clinic Medical Group in 1989 and has held many leadership roles during his tenure. He is the director of Graduate Medical Education, as well as the director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program. Dr. Kosty performs clinical research in thoracic and genitourinary malignancies, and is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology. Since joining ASCO in 1986, he has served on numerous committees including the Scientific Program Committee (Genitourinary Program), Bylaws Committee, Cancer Education Committee, Oncology Training Programs Committee, Professional Development Committee, Workforce Implementation Group, Workforce Advisory Group, and Test Materials Development Committee. | |

Meropol, MD, FASCO, Case Western Reserve University Dr. Meropol is Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center & Case Western Reserve University; Associate Director for Clinical Research at Case Comprehensive Cancer Center; Associate Director for Clinical Programs at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center; and holds the Dr. Lester E. Coleman, Jr., endowed chair in Cancer Research and Therapeutics. Since joining ASCO in 1993, Dr. Meropol has served as Chair of the Cancer Research Committee (2010-2011) and the Comparative Effectiveness Research Task Force (2009-2012). He was also a member of the Cancer Education Committee, Scientific Program Committee, and is currently a member of the Cost-of Care Task Force and Cancer Communications Committee.  | Ann H. Partridge, MD, MPH, FASCO, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Dr. Partridge is a medical oncologist and clinical researcher focused on improving the care and outcomes of women with breast cancer. Dr. Partridge is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Director of the Adult Survivorship Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Founder and Director of the Program for Young Women with Breast Cancer. Dr. Partridge has published manuscripts and lectures on issues related to breast cancer survivorship and young women with breast cancer in particular. She has received a Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Improving Cancer Care Grant, Lance Armstrong Foundation Cancer Survivorship Award, and serves on the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Scientific Advisory Council (Komen Scholar). Since joining ASCO in 2000, Dr. Partridge has served on numerous ASCO committees including the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee which she was the chair in 2011-2012, Health Services Committee, Cancer Education Committee, and Professional Development Committee. She also participated in the 2011-2012 ASCO Leadership Development Program. | |
 | Julie Vose, MD, MBA, FASCO, University of Nebraska Medical Center Dr. Vose is a Neumann M. and Mildred E. Harris Professor and Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her interests include clinical and translational research in novel therapies and methodologies for the treatment of lymphomas. Dr. Vose obtained her undergraduate degree in Medical Technology from South Dakota State University and her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she graduated with High Distinction. Dr. Vose also completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Since joining ASCO in 1991, she has volunteered on numerous committees including the Nominating Committee, Scientific Program Committee, Cancer Education Committee (Chair 1997-1998), Publications Committee, Cancer.Net Editorial Panel and Advisory Board, and a member of the Journal of Clinical Oncology Editorial Board.  | Peter Paul Yu, MD, FASCO, Palo Alto Medical Foundation Dr. Yu is a medical oncologist and hematologist at Palo Alto Medical Foundation, where he is also Director of Cancer Research. He has been at Palo Alto Medical Foundation since 1989. Since joining ASCO in 1986, Dr. Yu has served on the Quality of Care Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Health Information Technology Workgroup, Integrated Media and Technology Committee, Board of Directors, Cancer Research Committee, Clinical Practice Committee Chair, 2006-2007), and Best of ASCO Planning Committee Chair, 2004-2005), among others. He was also ASCO State Affiliate Society President of the Association of Northern California Oncologists (ANCO; 2004-2006) and is currently an ASCOconnection.org columnist.  | Robin Zon, MD, FACP, FASCO, Michiana Hematology Oncology Dr. Zon is a Vice President and one of the Senior Partners at Michiana Hematology-Oncology, P.C. She is also Principal Investigator for the Northern Indiana Cancer Research Consortium (NICRC)-CCOP and immediate past Vice-chair of the Hoosier Oncology Group. Before beginning her medical career, Dr. Zon worked as a pharmaceutical research investigator and manager of medical diagnostic product research and development at Merrell-Dow Pharmaceutical Company and Boehringer Mannheim Diagnostic Company. An ASCO member since 1997, she has served on numerous committees including the Cancer Education Committee, Cancer Prevention Committee, Cancer Research Committee, Clinical Practice Committee, Clinical Trials Workshop Planning Committee, Leadership Development Working Group, Quality of Care Committee and guideline panels. Dr. Zon also recently completed her service on the ASCO Board of Directors (2010-2013). |
