ASCO president Monica M. Bertagnolli, MD, FACS, FASCO, authored a commentary on the future of cancer care in USA Today.

Breelyn Wilky, MD, became an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, and director of Translational Sarcoma Research at the University of Colorado. Dr. Wilky is currently featured in a national research awareness campaign for ASCO’s Conquer Cancer Foundation, Breakthroughs Save Lives.

Nmazou Ozuah, MD, received an international scholar grant from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Matthew D. Ingham, MD, joined the faculty of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the Department of Surgery as associate surgeon in the Division of Urology.

Ana María López, MD, MPH, has joined the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Jefferson Health, as vice chair of Medical Oncology and Chief of Cancer Services.

Ronald D. Alvarez,  MD, MBA, has been elected director-at-large of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Kristen Whitaker, MD, became an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Genetics at Fox Chase Cancer Center.

Karen E. Knudsen, PhD, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the Association of American Cancer Institutes’ Board of Directors.

John B. Glen, BVMS, PhD, was honored with the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award by the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation.

Matthew Block, MD, PhD, and Tina Hieken, MD, received a Stand up to Cancer (SU2C) Catalyst Award to fund melanoma research and a neoadjuvant clinical trial.

Vamsidhar ‘Vamsi’ Velcheti, MD, FACP, joined the Perlmutter Cancer Center at New York University (NYU) Langone Health as director of Thoracic Medical Oncology.

Jeffrey M. Farma, MD, has been appointed chief of the Division of General Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the Fox Chase Cancer Center.

Lisa Newman, MD, MPH, FACS, FASCO, has been appointed chief of the Section of Breast Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine.

Pasi A. Jänne, MD, PhD, was selected to receive the ESMO Translational Research Award for his research contributions in lung cancer.

Alok A. Khorana, MD, FASCO, was awarded a grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for a project he co-leads studying the prevention of cancer-associated thrombosis.
