#ASCO18: A Special Welcome to Our International Members

The upcoming 2018 ASCO Annual Meeting will bring approximately 40,000 oncology professionals to Chicago during June 1-5. I want to welcome our attendees from outside the United States and note that you make up nearly half of our registrants. Our Annual Meeting features the brightest minds of oncology, and provides a matchless opportunity to network with our colleagues from the United States and around the world. We hope our International Attendees webpage will be a helpful guide to you before, during, and after the Annual Meeting. It includes information about the visa process, travel tips, and links to Annual Meeting resources.

We are also very proud that two of the four presentations selected by the Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee for the Plenary Session feature studies performed outside the United States, highlighting the contributions of our international members. The Plenary Session showcases the most groundbreaking, practice-changing abstracts submitted to the Annual Meeting, so be sure to join us on Sunday, June 3, at 1 PM for these presentations.

I had the privilege over the past 2 years to lead the ASCO Strategic Planning Task Force and guide the work of our Society for the next 5 years. One of the 5-year goals is to increase ASCO’s global engagement; one of the stated strategies to achieve that goal is to increase international member participation in ASCO. A critical step is to make certain that our members and registrants attend our Annual Meetings and participate in meeting planning and presentations.

Once again, we welcome our international members to the Annual Meeting and hope you enjoy your time in Chicago!
