Welcome to Chicago and to the 2017 ASCO Annual Meeting!
This Meeting represents my 32nd ASCO meeting, and each year it has gotten not just bigger, but better. I am constantly amazed at the progress we have made as a field, and by the offerings to present this progress—both research and standard of care—that helps us take better care of our patients. The respective chairs of the Scientific and Education Committees, Drs. David C. Smith and Michael A. Thompson, have worked diligently with the volunteer members of these committees and with ASCO staff to make this year the best yet.
The ASCO mission is to conquer cancer through research, education, and promotion of the highest quality patient care, and we envision a world where cancer is prevented or cured, and every survivor is healthy. As President this year, I have had the opportunity to observe firsthand the many things ASCO does to make a difference in cancer care WITH YOU, and I cannot wait to share them over the next few days.
Although we span many disciplines and professions, we are a single community with a singular focus: to provide better care for patients at risk for or with cancer.
Taking better care of patients with cancer is the ultimate goal of why we do what we do. I personally guarantee that your attendance at this year’s Annual Meeting will help ASCO work WITH YOU to truly make a difference in cancer care. Thanks for attending, and, if we get the chance, I look forward to chatting with you personally.
