What’s New

Best of ASCO® meetings condense highlights from the Annual Meeting into a two-day program, providing a unique, intimate forum for the presentation and discussion of top-rated, cutting-edge science. The Best of ASCO meetings in Miami and Seattle will also feature select Educational Sessions from the Annual Meeting, geared to the community oncologist.

Meeting registration includes access to the Annual Meeting Virtual Meeting, which provides video and slides of all captured sessions from the 2011 Annual Meeting. Best of ASCO Miami and Best of ASCO Seattle will feature ePoster stations, allowing attendees to view electronic versions of scientific posters from the Annual Meeting.

This year’s symposium will focus on the theme of “The Continuum of Breast Care: Science to Survivorship” and will foster dialogue between investigators and clinicians totranslate research directly intopractice. A full session devoted to survivorship will be led by expertfaculty, with session topics including:

  • Cognitive Impairment Following Breast Cancer Treatment and Potential Management Strategies
  • Post–breast-cancer Non-hormonal Management Therapies
  • Medications for Managing Side Effects of Cardiovascular, Lipid, and Arthraliga/Bone Issues Post Breast Cancer
  • Vulvovaginal Atrophy in the Breast Cancer Patient
  • Overview of Survivorship: What Are the Dilemmas that Survivors Face?

The general session will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A on standards of breast cancer centers, with a focus on private- and academic-based models. (Read more about ASCO’s cancer survivorship efforts.)

This meeting will present the latest advances in the field of molecular markers in cancer. Discussions will include the use of cancer biomarkers to assess drug efficacy and toxicity; technology improvement to perform comprehensive molecular analyses on blood and tumor biopsies for prognostic and predictive evaluation; molecular and functional imaging; new endpoints for clinic-genomictrials; and ethical-legal issues inbiomarker research.

Prior to the meeting, a diagnostic development tutorial will be held October 25-27, 2011, for selected early-career oncologists/scientists and representatives from thepharmaceutical industry.
