Chair, 2017 Cancer Survivorship Symposium Planning Committee

The second annual Cancer Survivorship Symposium: Advancing Care and Research – A Primary Care and Oncology Collaboration will be held in San Diego on January 27-28, 2017. This symposium, cosponsored by the American College of Physicians (ACP), the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and ASCO, will build on last year’s highly successful symposium.

A new feature for the 2017 symposium will be the Presidents Panel. On Saturday morning, January 28, current or past presidents for the three cosponsoring organization will be featured on a panel:

  • Wanda Filer, MD, MBA, FAAFP, is a family physician in York, PA, and the immediate past president and current board chair of the AAFP
  • Nitin Damle, MD, MS, MACP, is a general internist in Wakefield, RI, and the current president of ACP
  • Last but not least, Julie M. Vose, MD, MBA, FASCO, is a medical oncologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, and the immediate past president of ASCO

Our three panelists will discuss what their respective professional societies are doing to meet the needs of their members with respect to the care of cancer survivors. This should be an engaging and informative session.

Last year’s symposium was a great success. We anticipate an even better outcome with the upcoming symposium. We hope to see you in San Diego!

Dr. Oeffinger is a family physician, director of the Cancer Survivorship Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and a full-member in the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics. In March 2017, Dr. Oeffinger will be moving to Duke to serve as the director of the Duke Cancer Supportive Care and Survivorship Center and to establish the Duke Center for Onco-Primary Care, an innovative program within Duke Cancer Institute in partnership with Duke University Health System.
