ASCO-SEP Fifth Edition Now Available

Jun 28, 2016

The fifth edition of ASCO-SEP®, ASCO’s self-evaluation program in oncology, is now available from the ASCO University® Bookstore.

“This self-assessment resource was designed to help cancer care providers stay current with medical oncology, assess their level of knowledge in areas of oncology in preparation for board exams, provide credit in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process, and assist them in the care of patients with cancer,” said Martee L. Hensley, MD, MSc, Editor in Chief of the fifth edition.

ASCO-SEP helps oncologists and other cancer care providers assess their level of knowledge in various areas of oncology and provides an up-to-date understanding of cancer, its treatment, and the supportive care needed to optimize quality of life for patients with cancer. The comprehensive self-evaluation program contains 21 chapters providing current information on all major cancer types, cancer prevention and epidemiology, the molecular biology of cancer, palliative care, symptom management, and geriatric care, as well as overviews of clinical pharmacology, biologic therapies, and clinical trials.

Key Information at a Glance

To enable readers to quickly and easily discern key updates, this new edition of ASCO-SEP features a section at the beginning of each chapter that highlights information added or updated since the previous edition. The new edition includes updated key points throughout the chapters to emphasize important takeaways and to facilitate comprehension at a glance. This edition also features new self-assessment questions that do not repeat any questions from previous editions. All ASCO-SEP content—including chapters and self-assessment questions—is peer reviewed and reviewed by the ASCO-SEP Editorial Board.

New: ASCO-SEP Fifth Edition Mock Exam

In conjunction with the release of the latest edition of ASCO-SEP, ASCO University has released a new self-assessment course, the ASCO-SEP Fifth Edition Mock Exam. The mock exam contains 120 unique questions not included in the book. All questions come with answer rationales and references to enable users to easily access additional information on the topic.

MOC Credit Opportunities

The American Board of Internal Medicine approved the fourth edition of ASCO-SEP as an MOC Activity. The new edition will also provide the opportunity to earn MOC.

“The response to the opportunity to receive MOC credits for reading ASCO-SEP and completing the chapter-related multiple choice questions has been tremendous,” Dr. Hensley said. “We will continue to provide the opportunity to receive MOC for your work with the fifth edition of ASCO-SEP.”

The print and eBook versions of the fifth edition of ASCO-SEP offer the opportunity to earn up to 55 American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award Category 1 Credits™ for continuing medical education (CME) for completion of the CME/MOC Assessment and Evaluation, which is available for free with the purchase of the print book/eBook.
