ASCO Clinical Affairs Department Offers Support to Practices Across United States

Jun 27, 2016

ASCO is committed to helping oncology practices thrive in the ever-changing, ever-demanding health care delivery system—and to ensuring that patients continue to receive the high-quality cancer care they expect and deserve.

The ASCO Clinical Affairs Department is a one-stop shop for the business side of cancer care, from resources and tools to transform practices to a valuebased reimbursement system to data and information to enhance business operations and quality of care.

Established in 2014 and staffed by national leaders in clinical oncology care and practice management, the ASCO Clinical Affairs Department supports practicing oncologists, practice administrators, and oncology practices in all settings across the United States—large and small community practices, hospital-based oncology departments and practices, and academic and research institutions.

ASCO’s Clinical Affairs team is here to help practices in the areas of data analysis, practice management, and quality and performance improvement. The department helps practices collaborate, innovate their delivery of cancer care, and respond to the growing economic and administrative challenges that all oncology practices face today.

Services provided by the ASCO Clinical Affairs Department include:

  • PracticeNET: A learning collaborative in which oncology practices share data and information and receive insights to enhance business operations and quality of care.
  • Patient-Centered Oncology Payment: Payment Reform to Support Higher Quality, More Affordable Cancer Care (PCOP): ASCO’s payment reform model designed to improve the quality and affordability of care for patients with cancer. The department is now working to evaluate its payment reform proposal with multiple practices in diverse settings.
  • Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification: A 3-year certification provided to outpatient oncology practices (of all types and sizes) which evaluates performance in clinical areas that affect patient care and safety.
  • Quality Training Program: The nation’s leading oncology quality improvement course that empowers practice teams to improve clinical care and operational performance while maximizing a demanding schedule with competing priorities.
