ASCO Community Research Forum: Bringing Community-Based Researchers Together to Advance Cancer Research

As chair of ASCO’s Community Research Forum (CRF) Council, it’s my pleasure to invite community-based researchers to our third Community Research Forum Annual Meeting, taking place September 28-29, 2014, at ASCO Headquarters in Alexandria, VA.

ASCO established the CRF in 2010 to provide community-based investigators a forum to discuss common challenges and identify and develop solutions to address these research challenges, with the support of ASCO staff. With growing interest to participate in clinical trials, despite limited time and resources to do so, increasingly complex clinical trial protocols, burdens of regulatory requirements, and less funding to support research, the CRF and its initiatives are an important resource for community-based physician investigators and their staff.

The CRF Annual Meeting offers a unique opportunity for physician investigators and research staff to network, discuss barriers, and collaborate to propose solutions to common challenges faced in the community setting. The meeting is held at ASCO headquarters and is open to anyone doing research in the community setting.

We plan to kick off the CRF Annual Meeting on Sunday, September 28, with a networking reception at 6:30 PM. The meeting will take place on Monday, September 29, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Please click here to register or visit www.asco.org/communityresearchforum for more information.

I hope you are able to join us this year. Your insight and contributions are important!

In addition to the Annual Meeting, the CRF develops resources and tools to facilitate conducting research in the community setting. The CRF will release three important tools this year for physician investigators and their research staff: the ASCO Research Program Quality Assessment Tool, the ASCO Clinical Trial Workload Assessment Tool, and a list of helpful resources for physician investigators and research staff.

For more information about the CRF, its Annual Meeting, or its resources and tools, please visit the CRF website www.asco.org/communityresearchforum.
