Commit to Continuing Education in 2017 With Biologic Cancer Therapies Course, ASCO MOC App, ASCO University Essentials

Dec 22, 2016

Begin the new year by renewing your commitment to continuous learning with ASCO University®.

Biologic Cancer Therapies

ASCO University’s Biologic Cancer Therapies course includes a discussion of biologic agents, the cancer types for which they are currently approved for use, their mechanisms of action, and potential side effects.

Biologic Cancer Therapies was developed and is led by expert faculty with backgrounds in pharmaceuticals, clinical trials, medical oncology, and nursing. The course is divided into four sections:

  • Principles of Biologic Therapy
  • Biologic Agents
  • Antibodies as Cancer Treatment
  • Case Studies (which follows three patients being treated with biologic cancer therapies)

This course is designed for all members of the cancer care team, including medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and oncology fellows. Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  • Recognize the roles of biologic therapies in cancer treatment and supportive care;
  • Differentiate biologics from other forms of cancer therapy;
  • Classify biologics based on mechanism of action; and
  • Apply this knowledge to the treatment of patients receiving biologic cancer therapies.

A maximum of 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for continuing medical education (CME) and 4 American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points are available upon completion of the course.

ASCO MOC App

January 2017 marks the latest release within the popular ASCO MOC App. A new 40-question general oncology course is now available.

The courses in this app are designed to help cancer care providers fit quick, intensive learning into their busy schedules. Using a pulsed education approach, the app sends participants push notifications every other day in order to notify them that questions are available for self-assessment. Each multiple-choice question in the app includes patient case information, educational links, and answer rationales.

After successful completion of the activity, ABIM diplomates are eligible to claim 5 MOC points in medical knowledge directly through the app.

iPhone or iPad users can search ASCO MOC in the App Store to download the app. Android users can search ASCO MOC in the Google Play Store. For other devices, use the ASCO MOC App mobile website.
