Best of ASCO®: Housing and Early Registration Deadline Is Approaching

15 Jun 2012 3:39 PM

For a closer look at the key science and educational information presented at the 2012 ASCO Annual Meeting, attend one of this summer’s three Best of ASCO® Meetings in Chicago (July 12-13), Boston (August 3-4), or San Diego (August 10-11). For savings, register and reserve housing by June 20 at 11:59 PM (EDT).

“We have boiled down the large ASCO meeting into two days of the most important information,” said Dr. Kathy Miller, Chair of the Best of ASCO Planning Committee. “Even if you have time to attend the ASCO Annual Meeting, there are often concurrent sessions that make it impossible to get to every session and for that the Best of ASCO is perfect. There are no competing sessions—you can attend every session.”

Presentations at the Best of ASCO Meetings are organized in lecture format to provide information in a clinical context, with each presenter sharing two or three slides that show an immediate practical application. This year's dynamic program features in-depth analysis and discussion of the top scientific abstracts, which reflect the foremost research and strategies in oncology that will directly impact patient care. Full abstracts and confirmed faculty for each meeting location are now available in the online program agenda: Chicago, Boston, and San Diego.

Abstract presentations will be complemented by select educational topics, including adjuvant therapy in older adults, issues in drug development, and personalized medicine.

New this year, all Best of ASCO Meetings will have associated audio and video captures of session through the Virtual Meeting, which will be available 24 hours after each Meeting; Virtual Meeting is included in registration fees. In addition to access to the Best of ASCO Virtual Meeting, program materials include electronic access to session slides after the Meeting, two continental breakfasts, and two boxes lunches.

Ideal for Networking and Questions

The Meetings’ smaller size is ideal for networking with peers and interacting with world-class faculty.  Another highlight of Best of ASCO meetings for both faculty and attendees said Dr. Miller is the challenging case question: “Come prepared: if you have a patient with a difficult medical situation—a difficult combination of co-morbidities and social constraints and you’re struggling to figure out what are the best treatment options for this patient—bring those cases, share them with the faculty and we’ll see if together, we can help you develop to a plan.”

Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Sessions at Best of ASCO Boston and San Diego

Prior to the Best of ASCO Boston and San Diego Meetings, attend an interactive session to review the newly released ABIM 2012 Update Module in Medical Oncology. Upon completion, ABIM diplomates will be able to submit their answers to ABIM for 10 MOC points. View more information on the MOC sessions in Boston or San Diego.
The Meeting has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM.

Financial Assistance

ASCO offers financial assistance for Associate Members to attend the Best of ASCO Meetings. The travel grant reimburses up to $600 of Meeting-related expenses. The grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and the number is limited.
