ASCO is pleased to announce the results of the recent Society election for President-Elect, the Board of Directors, and the Nominating Committee. The seven new leaders, who have a depth and breadth of experience within ASCO and in other organizations, will begin their positions at the 2013 ASCO Annual Meeting in June.

Priorities for the incoming leaders will include CancerLinQ™, ASCO’s rapid learning system for oncology (currently in development), and other applications for health information technology; global health care; managing the cost of cancer care; health care reform and other policy issues; supporting research in the areas of genetic pathways and molecular subtypes of cancer; and increased engagement among international members, community-based practitioners, and early-career oncology professionals; among others.

		Peter P. Yu, MD President-Elect (2014-2015 President) Dr. Yu is a medical oncologist and hematologist and Director of Cancer Research at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Since joining ASCO in 1986, Dr. Yu has served on the Quality of Care Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Health Information Technology Workgroup (current Chair), Integrated Media and Technology Committee, and Board of Directors, among others, and is an ASCOconnection.org columnist. Additionally, Dr. Yu is a member of two cooperative groups, the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG). He also serves as Co-Chair of the Commission for the Certification of Health Information Technology (CCHIT) Oncology Workgroup and is a member of the CCHIT Research Workgroup.
		Therese M. Mulvey, MD, FASCO Board of Directors—Community Oncologist Dr. Mulvey is the Physician-in-Chief at Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care, part of Southcoast Health System, with centers in Fairhaven and Fall River, Massachusetts. An active member since 2001, she currently serves on ASCO’s Quality of Care Committee, Clinical Practice Committee, and the Cost of Cancer Care Task Force. Dr. Mulvey is a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology since 2010. She was also honored with the 2009 Goodspeed Chair Award and Lecture for Quality Care from Southcoast Hospitals Group. She has served on the Cancer Quality Alliance and as Chair of the Oncology Carrier Advisory Committee.
		Neal J. Meropol, MD Board of Directors—Medical Oncologist Dr. Meropol is a Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University; Associate Director for Clinical Research at Case Comprehensive Cancer Center; Associate Director for Clinical Programs at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center; and the Dr. Lester E. Coleman, Jr., Endowed Chair in Cancer Research and Therapeutics. An ASCO member since 1993, he serves on the Cost of Care Task Force and Cancer Communications Committee, and is Co-Chair of the ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop. He is a member of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Research and Education Foundation Board of Directors.
		Paulo Marcelo Gehm Hoff, MD, PhD, FACP Board of Directors—Undesignated Specialty Dr. Hoff is the Professor of Oncology and General Director of the ICESP—Instituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo, at the University of São Paulo, as well as General Director of the Oncology Center at the Hospital Sírio Libanês, Brazil. He is a voluntary faculty member at the University of Miami. An ASCO member since 1996, he currently serves on the Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium Planning Committee. Dr. Hoff is a member of the Brazilian Society of Clinical Oncology and the European Society for Medical Oncology, and is active in the National Surgical Adjuvant Bowel and Breast Project and the Southwest Oncology Group.
		Roscoe F. Morton, MD, FACP Nominating Committee—Community Oncologist Dr. Morton is a partner at Medical Oncology and Hematology Associates of Iowa, where he has worked as a community oncologist since 1981. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Medicine-Des Moines. An ASCO member since 1983, he currently serves as Chair of the State Affiliate Working Group, on the Clinical Practice Committee, and on the Special Awards Selection Committee. He is a member of the Iowa State Medical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and served several terms as President of the Iowa Oncology Society.
		Lee M. Ellis, MD Nominating Committee—Undesignated Specialty Dr. Ellis is a Professor of Surgery and Cancer Biology and the William C. Liedtke, Jr,. Chair in Cancer Research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. An ASCO member since 1994, he is currently Chair of the Cancer Research Committee and is Track Leader in Tumor Biology on the Cancer Education Committee. He is a member of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Data Monitoring Committee and Vice Chair of the NCI’s Colon Cancer Task Force. He founded and leads the GI Cancers Steering Committee Innovation Working Group.
		Kim Allyson Margolin, MD Nominating Committee—Undesignated Specialty Dr. Margolin is an Associate Director for the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Training Program and a Professor in the Division of Oncology at the University of Washington and Director of the University of Washington/Seattle Cancer Care Alliance clinical research program in melanoma and kidney cancer. She joined ASCO in 1985 and has served on the Cancer Education Committee and Best of ASCO® Planning Committee. She is active on the Southwest Oncology Group’s Melanoma Committee and Professional Review Committee, and in the Melanoma Research Foundation, Melanoma Research Alliance, and Society for Melanoma Research. Dr. Margolin will serve as 2015-2016 Chair of the Nominating Committee.

Meet ASCO’s New Leaders at the 2013 Annual Meeting
The President-Elect and new members of the Board of Directors and Nominating Committee will be introduced and take office during the Annual Business Meeting, to be held Monday, June 3, at the Annual Meeting. Members are encouraged to attend this event, where they will have the opportunity to learn more about the newly elected leaders and to witness the passing of the presidential gavel.
