My Experience at the ASCO 2012 Meeting

Even though it is almost five months since the 2012 ASCO Annual Meeting, I felt it would be nice to share my experience with my colleagues to encourage those planning to attend next year.

I planned to attend the ASCO meeting few years back but unfortunately was not able to make it. Glad I managed this year. It was my first visit to Chicago but not to the USA. I was very impressed with the vast arrangements from the first day. Before arriving, I heard the number of attendees is very huge possibly reaching 25,000 to 30,000 so, I expected the place to be very crowded, with possible transportation and traffic troubles.

Honestly speaking, I did not face any problems. There were many signs to direct you to the venue as well as staff to assist you on site. I liked the warm smiles on their faces. This made me feel relaxed as I easily reached the venue of the presentations I was interested in without any difficulties. Transportation was very well organized and easy going, so you can plan to enjoy your time.

From the scientific point of view, I was worried that I might not get the utmost benefit of the meeting as the program is very rich and has too many parallel sessions. The tips written by Prof. Jazieh were very helpful and helped me to make my plan and choose the topics I am interested in before the meeting started. The scientific program was fantastic and amazing.

I enjoyed going around Chicago, Illinois, shopping, eating in nice restaurants, and meeting with colleagues from all over the world with different cultures and backgrounds.

I came back home with very nice memories and, based on my experience; I encourage my colleagues to plan to attend ASCO in 2013.
