Reuters reports on a study published in the
Journal of Clinical Oncology which found that
female patients with cancer are less likely than male patients to receive information from their physicians about how chemotherapy might affect their future fertility. Of 500 patients surveyed, 80% of men were given information about the effect of cancer treatment on their fertility, but only 48% of women reported receiving such information. 68% of men were counseled on options for preserving their fertility, while only 14% of women were counseled on their options.
